Etta James The Essential Rar

Etta James – 1966 – Call My Name Read Reviews, Buy the Album or Download the Album for freeIt’s extremely difficult for me to pick an album other than “At Last!” by the incomparable Etta James to jump-start what will most definitely be a series of Gems Of Jams to follow. In choosing, I decided to go with one of my personal favorites of hers, an obscure record, but the album that launched a dirtier and grittier sound from Etta. The extraordinary beauty of Etta’s early ’60s work is that she was a piranha cast into a sea of orchestral arrangements. The music was pretty, but her voice (even at 22) brought a razor-like growl to each track that nearly spliced the strings off the symphony backing her. She was also surrounded by white background singers to appeal to white record-buyers and would sing so loud; she’d bust a microphone every now and then. Released in 1967, “Call My Name” is a 12-song groove that will have you subconsciously “stank-facing” at any given moment.TracksA1 Happiness 2:48A2 That’s All I Want From You 2:45A3 Have a Little Faith in Me 2:40A4 I’m So Glad (I Found Love in You) 3:12A5 You Are My Sunshine 2:37A6 It Must Be Your Love 2:52B1 842-3089 (Call My Name) 2:57B2 Don’t Pick Me for Your Fool 2:31B3 I Prefer You 2:50B4 Nobody Loves Me 2:45B5 It’s All Right 2:37B6 Nobody Like You 2:53I was somewhat tentative in picking this one up. Not because of a lack of trust in Miss James bringing the goods, as she always does, but because of my slight aversion toward mid-60s soul coming from Chicago Chi-town in the early to mid-60s had a habit of drowning its soul vocalists in ill-fitting orchestral arrangements, old-timey choirs and overtly smooth production values.

For a good example: check out most of Jackie Wilson’s early to mid-60s recordings, and compare them with the stuff he delivered post-soul salvation in 1966.Etta had been saddled with this style of supper-club soul as well, but, luckily, picking up ‘Call My Name’ turned out to be quite rewarding.

There are many Etta James collections out there. The standard-bearers thus far have been the Chess Box and the Essential Etta James. This set attempts to do something else and goes deep into her catalog to dig out the gems from her years with Modern, Argo, Cadet, Chess, Warner Brothers, Island, and Private Music/BMG, and presents the full spectrum of her five-decade career. As such, there are many different kinds of songs here revealing the complexity of the vocalist herself, and as such, thus becomes a real portrait of the artist. Juxtapose, for instance, early sides like “The Wallflower Dance (Dance With Me Henry),” with its wild R&B bravado and the deep soul-blues of “All I Could Do Is Cry,” the balladry of “The Man I Love,” the bone-crushing blues of “The Sky Is Crying,” and the torch song ballad technique on “My Dearest Darling,” and the despairing soul inherent in songs such as “All the Way Down,” and the listener begins to get an idea of just how vast and deep James talent really is.

These 23 cuts give a fine and full picture of all that diversity without sacrificing a note of quality. This is a fine introduction to James for those listeners who have become acquainted with her in recent years, and a decent look at the later material for those cynical purists who think it was over and done by 1970. The Boston-based quintet found the middle ground between the menace of the Rolling Stones and the campy, sleazy flamboyance of the New York Dolls, developing a lean, dirty riff-oriented boogie that was loose and swinging and as hard as a diamond. In the meantime, they developed a prototype for power ballads with “Dream On,” a piano ballad that was orchestrated with strings and distorted guitars. Aerosmith’s ability to pull off both ballads and rock & roll made them extremely popular during the mid-’70s, when they had a string of gold and platinum albums. By the early ’80s, the group’s audience had declined as the band fell prey to drug and alcohol abuse. However, their career was far from over — in the late ’80s, Aerosmith pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in rock history, returning to the top of the charts with a group of albums that equaled, if not surpassed, the popularity of their ’70s albums. In 1970, the first incarnation of Aerosmith formed when vocalist Steven Tyler met guitarist Joe Perry while working at a Sunapee, New Hampshire, ice cream parlor. Tyler, who originally was a drummer, and Perry decided to form a power trio with bassist Tom Hamilton.

The group soon expanded to a quartet, adding a second guitarist called Ray Tabano; he was quickly replaced by Brad Whitford, a former member of Earth Inc. With the addition of drummer Joey Kramer, Tyler became the full-time lead singer by the end of year. Aerosmith relocated to Boston at the end of 1970.1. Though Megadeth followed the basic blueprint of Metallica’s relentless attack, Mustaine’s group distinguished themselves from his earlier band by lessening the progressive rock influences, adding an emphasis on instrumental skills, speeding up the tempo slightly, and making the instrumental attack harsher. By streamlining the classic thrash metal approach and making the music more threatening, as well as making the lyrics more nihilistic, Megadeth became one of the leading bands of the genre during the mid- and late ’80s. Each album they released went at least gold, and they continually sold out arenas across America, in addition to developing a strong following overseas.

By the early ’90s, they had toned their music down slightly, yet that simply increased their following; all of their proper ’90s albums debuted in the Top Ten.1. Meat Loaf – Braver Than We Are (2016)EAC Rip FLAC Image + Cue + Log Full Scans IncludedTotal Size: 358 MB 3% RAR RecoveryLabel: 429 Records USA Cat#: FTN16127 Genre: Hard RockJim Steinman parted ways with Meat Loaf sometime after their improbable 1993 blockbuster Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell.

He contributed a couple of songs to its 1995 sequel, Welcome to the Neighborhood, but by the time Meat Loaf was ready to do a third installment of Bat Out of Hell, Steinman opted out for unspecified reasons, leaving the singer to use five previously released Steinman songs as produced by Desmond Child — a satisfactory compromise that at the very least illustrated how Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” should’ve been on a Bat Out of Hell album. Through a series of circumstances, Meat Loaf and Steinman wound up reuniting for 2016’s Braver Than We Are, which was produced by Paul Crook, just like its 2012 predecessor Hell in a Handbasket. While the record bears some slick modern hallmarks, it is very much a throwback, evoking memories of Todd Rundgren’s overblown Springsteen parody of 1977 as well as the earnest re-creation of 1993. Steinman’s songs are suitably theatrical — the opening “Who Needs the Young” feels like it’s a Broadway reject — and while he slyly winks at his past with “Going All the Way Is Just the Start (A Song in 6 Movements),” a song that features a cameo from “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” singer Ellen Foley, he also seems unaware that Ratt got to the title “Loving You Is a Dirty Job” first. That isolation is ultimately a benefit because Braver Than We Are feels caught between nostalgia and indifference, an album so old-fashioned it seems happily ignorant of modernity even when it threads EDM rhythms and metallic guitars into “More.” The other way it’s possible to tell this album was released in 2016 is Meat Loaf’s performance. Thin and sometimes breathless, he’s no longer the colossus of the ’70s, but the diminishment of his range humanizes him and adds a bittersweet tinge to this reunion.

Through Meat Loaf’s voice alone, mortality becomes evident and it makes this third reunion with Steinman all the sweeter. Braver Than We Are may have its flaws — it’s too staid and self-conscious, for one — but Steinman never found a better interpreter for his songs than Meat Loaf, and Meat Loaf never sounds more like himself than he does when singing Steinman, and that’s why the album works.Additional Info:. Second only to Bob Dylan (and perhaps Paul Simon), he commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the ’60s who is still working in the 21st century, which is all the more remarkable an achievement for someone who didn’t even aspire to a musical career until he was in his thirties.Cohen was born in 1934, a year before Elvis Presley, and his background — personal, social, and intellectual — couldn’t have been more different from those of the rock or folk stars of any generation. Though he knew some country music and played it a bit as a boy, he didn’t start performing on even a semi-regular basis, much less recording, until after he had already written several books — and as an established novelist and poet, his literary accomplishments far exceed those of Bob Dylan or most anyone else who one cares to mention in music.1.

Television network, MTV. Mixing his bad-boy good looks with an appealing blend of pop hooks, punk attitude, and a dance beats, Idol quickly rocketed to stardom, before hard living derailed his career and almost proved fatal. Born William Michael Albert Broad on November 30, 1955, in Middlesex, England, the youngster relocated with his family for a brief spell to New York, before returning back to England. After a stint at Sussex University only last a year, Broad found himself as part of a group of teen punk rockers who befriended and followed the Sex Pistols, known as “the Bromley Contingent” (a member of this colorful group of characters was Siouxsie Sioux, eventual leader of Siouxsie & the Banshees).1. The daughter of Ravi Shankar, Jones grew up in Texas with her mother. While she always found the music of Billie Holiday and Bill Evans both intriguing and comforting, she didn’t really explore jazz until attending Dallas’ Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

During high school, Jones won the Down Beat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition in 1996, and earned a second Best Jazz Vocalist award in 1997. Putting her vocal talents on the back burner, Jones worked toward earning a degree in jazz piano at the University of North Texas for two years before accepting a friend’s offer of a summer sublet in Greenwich Village during the summer of 1999.1. Marillion – Fuck Everyone And Run (FEAR) (2016)EAC Rip FLAC Tracks + Cue + Log Full Scans IncludedTotal Size: 516 MB 3% RAR RecoveryLabel: Ear Music / Edel Germany Cat#: 0211248EMU Genre: Progressive RockDelivering a political album is always risky, with the possibility that it will get locked in its historical era usually a direct consequence. On their 18th album, prog rockers Marillion don’t seem to care, and they have nothing to lose and no one to account to but themselves. FEAR is an acronym for “Fuck Everybody and Run.” Two of its three lengthy, multi-part suites (“El Dorado” and “The New Kings”) are overtly political statements that look at England and the calamitous state of the world not only observationally but experientially. Topical songs have been part of the band’s catalog as far back as 1984’s “Fugazi,” and have shown up as recently as the multi-part “Gaza,” from 2012’s Sounds That Can’t Be Made (the latter was perhaps an impetus for this record).

The centerpiece, “The Leavers,” is an inside view of life on the road, the strain it places on relationships, and how tenuous one’s connection to the world can become as a result. There are also three independent tracks that evolve from the suites. The first section of “El Dorado” commences as a reverie on an England at once exactly the same but eerily and disturbingly different. As guitarist Steve Rothery and keyboardist Mark Kelly urge vocalist Steve Hogarth on in the second section, as he laments the pursuit of capital as more deadly than plutonium, drummer Ian Mosely and bassist Pete Trewavas offer a progression reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s “Any Colour You Like” before the band opens up and Hogarth soars.

The fourth section broodingly then thunderously reflects on the tolls of war, nationalism, religious fanaticism, and environmental decay. Amazingly, it’s not preachy, but deeply personal.

Kelly’s orchestral keyboard stylings are brilliant. The hinge cut, “Living in Fear,” is the catchiest thing here, with an anthemic, sweeping chorus, and a stinging guitar in the bridge with a hook that is almost pop.

Throughout its four sections, “The Leavers” weaves from the gently melodic to the majestic. Hogarth’s lyrics have matured, delivering deep insight into the melancholy state of being the protagonist inhabits, as the trace of Radiohead’s influence that slips in and out of the mix offers a poignant sense of alienation and dislocation. “The New Kings” is the knottiest, most intense track on the set. Over 16 minutes long, it’s a scathing, sarcastic takedown of the new political power brokers: Corporate overlords whose cynicism is a virus.

Throughout its four parts it shifts in tempo, key, and form, wafting, hovering, and power rocking through to an apocalyptic conclusion.Fans of the musical direction Marillion pursued during the ’90s on Brave and This Strange Engine will find much to enjoy on FEAR. It requires repeated listening to fully absorb, but the payoff is easily the band’s most consistent, inspiring date since 2004’s Marbles.Additional Info:.
